Arrows sped from bows and shotguns fired among the pinewoods at h&b’s annual Activity Day, held at Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort, Brough.

Merchant members and associates of the h&b buying group battled intensely with their suppliers in a variety of outdoor activities, which included golf and quad bike driving. Following an afternoon of sport, dinner was served for 180 people.

After dinner, h&b chair Peter Buttle thanked suppliers for their help in sponsoring the event, and Martin Mansfield of h&b for arranging it, and then presented the prizes.

The golf prize went to Simon Taylor of Bostik followed by Aaron Frogley of Vado, with Steve Pilgrim of Birkenhead Roofing & Building Supplies in third place. Mr Taylor was a winner again, along with Duncan Murray of Strata Stone, Steve Robbins of Chalford Building Supplies and Paul Munro of Aspinall & Son as the best golf team.

In first place on the Quad Bikes was Chris Dawson of Brett Martin. Meanwhile, Ian Newey of Dacatie had the highest score blasting clays from the sky, and Wayne Harris from Ibstock was awarded thea prize.

In addition, a prize draw in aid of h&b’s chosen charity this year – the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre Appeal – was won by Neil Hemington of Hevey Building Supplies. The draw raised over £2,500 for the charity. The prizes were sponsored by Charlton Gates and Fencing, Symphony Kitchens and Velux.

Following a late night of networking, suppliers returned home and h&b members met to decide which suppliers to invite to tender for supplying the group for 2015.

According to the group, the overall opinion from both merchants and suppliers was that this was the best activity day yet.
