Rob Burrough, a postman from Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, has scooped the top prize in the Brazil edition of the Selco Predictor competition, run in conjunction with talkSPORT.

Mr Burrough won £5,000 worth of Sony gadgets by guessing more correct scores and results than anyone else during the summer football bonanza in Brazil.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I’ve never won anything. I was absolutely rubbish in the Premier League Selco Predictor, so this really is a big turn in fortunes.”

Mr Borrough, a Tottenham Hotspur fan, plans to keep most of the gadgets for his own use – although he added: “My daughters are 20, 18 and 14 so they’ve already claimed some of it.”

Helen Cooper, Selco marketing director, added: “Everyone at Selco sends a huge congratulations to Rob for his victory. It’s a great prize and I hope he and his daughters enjoy it.

“The Selco Predictor has proved to be a huge success and I know a lot of people right across the country enjoy competing against their colleagues, family and friends to see who really knows their football.”

The Brazil edition of the competition followed on from talkSPORT’s Premier League Predictor, which Selco began sponsoring at the start of this year, which gives players the chance to bag a £1m jackpot by correctly predicting the results of 10 Premier League matches on any given weekend.

Selco also offered an exclusive monthly prize to its staff and customers of £1,000 worth of holiday vouchers for the top points-scorer each month registered in a league. The Selco Predictor will return for the 2014-15 season this month.

Hosted on the talkSPORT website, the Selco Predictor can also be accessed in any Selco branch via a terminal located at the trade counter.
