Ted Tugwell, tool sales manager at Elliotts Builders' Merchants in Hampshire, is working to raise awareness of cervical cancer after his wife, Angela, passed away from the disease.

Nine women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every day in the UK, and yet public knowledge of the disease remains low with 20% of women still not attending cervical screenings.

Mrs Tugwell, who her husband described as a "devoted wife and mother to daughter Emma, aged six", was diagnosed in early 2013 and quickly underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy. While initial scans showed the disease had already spread, following treatment there was a significant reduction in the size of the tumour. Sadly, Mrs Tugwell passed away on 26 November, 2013.

During her illness, Mrs Tugwell found the Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust website www.jostrust.org.uk a great source of support and information, with the website also highlighting how people can raise awareness and monies in your local community.

Mrs Tugwell's family have set up a Tribute fund and are encouraging people to donate to this worthwhile cause, with the ultimate hope that other families don’t have to suffer the loss that Ted and Emma Tugwell and their family and friends have.

The Tribute fund can be found online at http://jostrust.tributefunds.com/fund/Angela+Tugwell/showFund
