BSS Industrial has shown its support for the next generation of industry stars after providing products for the final round of SkillPIPE 2013.

The distributor has congratulated gold medal winner Elliott Blakeley, from T Clarke Leeds, for receiving top marks after three days of intense practical competition.

For the fifth year running, BSS Industrial stepped forward to donate materials such as pipes, valves, and high-quality BOSS consumables, which were used to test the competitors against a range of criteria including material usage, health and safety, and overall installation presentation.

This year’s event was held at the NEC Birmingham from 14 to 16 November, alongside the UK finals of SkillELECTRIC, SkillFRIDGE, SkillPLUMB and SkillBUILD. After a series of challenges, theSkillPIPE finalists had to cut, thread, weld, and install pipework with temperature controls, commissioning valves and a circulating pump, all to a high standard and tight specification.

Chris Hufflett, managing director of BSS Industrial, said: “BSS Industrial continues to recognise the importance of supporting the next generation and promoting the high standard of skills that exist within the industry.

“SkillPIPE provides a fantastic opportunity for employees and students to showcase the level of talent currently operating in our sector and be rewarded for their exceptional skills and abilities. Congratulations to Elliott and all of the finalists who have been recognised as the best at what they do.”

SkillPIPE is organised by SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for building services engineering.
