Recognising the importance of working with colleges and their students, Jewson has donated a bucket of tools and a Makita site radio to each winning student of the year receiving their National Diploma at the South & City College award ceremony in Birmingham.

South & City College offers a variety of construction training, across a range of disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, plastering, carpentry and bricklaying courses. Construction students at South & City College are able to get involved in real projects, take part in regional and national competitions and get the hands-on experience they need to take their careers forward.

The college’s awards ceremony saw 80 students attend to accept their National Diploma in plastering and tiling. Students were awarded in three main categories – most improved, best in class and student of the year. The overall three Students of the Year received a bucket packed with useful tools from Jewson and also walked away with a site radio.

“Having use of these tools is extremely beneficial for our students,” said Michael Mann, a tiling and plastering tutor at the college. “It is important for our students to understand the products and materials that will be available to them during and after their training. We are very grateful for Jewson’s generosity, support and faith in our students here at South & City College.”

Jewson’s marketing director, David Fenton, said: “It is important that we are able to provide a stepping-stone for students in such difficult economic conditions. It was a pleasure to support South & City College, it reflects Jewson’s commitment to education and training and the importance of young people gaining the relevant skills to pursue a successful career in the industry.”
