Selco Builders Warehouse is set to continue its growth by opening a new branch in Wimbledon and has secured the ‘signing’ of a local football hero to cut the ribbon.
The company will open a branch on Weir Road on 3 June, 2013, taking its number of branches in the London area to 18.
Around 50 jobs will be created from the opening, while the official launch day will be attended by Bobby Gould, the manager who famously guided Wimbledon to FA Cup glory in 1988.
Following on from the opening of the new Old Kent Road branch in April, the Wimbledon branch will be the latest addition to Selco’s ambitious growth strategy.
Chris Cunliffe, Selco’s managing director, said: “Customer demand for Selco branches is growing around the country and that’s certainly the case in the Wimbledon area.
“We are delighted to have met that demand with the opening of another new branch and our commitment is to provide greater access to our huge range of competitively priced products that are stocked in depth and readily available for customers to purchase.”
Ross Sandy will be the new branch manager, having previously run the company’s Croydon branch and overseen the opening of Selco Catford in 2011.
Mr Sandy said: “The new staff are looking forward to the branch opening and are currently undergoing training for their roles. As with all of Selco’s new branch openings, here at Wimbledon we have encouraged applications from the local area and were delighted by the large number and high calibre of applicants.”
The Wimbledon Selco branch will offer an extensive range of building materials, drainage, roofing, heating, plumbing and electrical products, a range of timber including a bespoke cutting service, doors and windows, ironmongery and fixings, decorating supplies, landscaping and fencing items, as well as kitchen and bathroom showrooms.
There will also be an in-branch cafe, trade counter services, direct-to-site delivery options and van-size parking spaces, all designed to make it easier for tradespeople to get on to the job as soon as possible.
The ribbon to open the branch will be officially cut at 9.30am on 3 June, with Mr Gould available to meet, sign autographs and play table football against for the rest of the morning.
