The Wales v Italy Six Nations rugby match in Rome on 23 February 2013 proved to be a big success, not only for the Welsh team but also for LBS Builders’ Merchants of south west Wales, who took 200 customers and their partners on a customer-targeted Export Opportunities Event to Rome.

After flying out of Cardiff by private charter to Rome, customers stayed at the Westin Excelsior Hotel on the Via Veneto, an ideal location to indulge in all things Italian – good food and wine, shopping and sightseeing with the Coliseum, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain all nearby, and coinciding with Italian Government elections and the 100,000 strong congregation at the last Sunday Mass of Pope Benedict XVI. Attending the Wales rugby match was a bonus, and LBS were delighted to help swell the ranks of Welsh supporters by booking a block of 200 seats, making them easy to spot for television coverage.

The weekend was well-received by customers, who are already looking forward to the next event. Mark Davies, managing director of LBS, said: “despite the challenges currently facing the building industry, 2012 was a very good year for LBS. The support of these valued customers throughout the year has played a significant part in this. It was great to be in Rome to see Wales win, and I am sure we will all remember the weekend for a long time.”
