CAMBRIDGE: The Institute of Builders' Merchants' 'Practical Building Skills Challenge Day' will take place at Cambridge Regional College on Friday 8 October.

The aim of the day is to provide practical experience to enhance product knowledge and enable merchant employees to be better advise customers on how to use and work with the products they sell.

Working alongside other merchants, delegates will have the opportunity to:

  • Build and erect a timber frame structure.
  • Lay bricks.
  • Fit cladding.
  • Cut and fix plasterboard.
  • Bend and install copper pipes.
  • Tile with ceramics.

Prizes will be awarded for the best build and all delegates will be awarded a free year's membership to the Institute of Builders Merchants.

"Do you want your employees to learn more about the products they sell but in a fun, challenging and very hands-on way?

"If you do, then enrol them onto this day," said Rebecca Mason, president of the IoBM.

"Suppliers are welcome to support the event by sponsoring materials, providing prizes or through attendance on the day," she added.
