LONDON: Wolseley’s focus at last week’s Building Schools Exhibition and Conference at London Excel was on how schools can reduce their water usage by more than a third, as well as how to protect little hands from getting trapped in doors.
The Safehinge, manufactured by the company of the same name, and sold through Dryad, the architectural ironmongery division of Build Center, was one of several products on display on the interactive stand and proved a hit with visitors, particularly end users such as teachers and local authorities.
Another popular section of the stand, which was the largest of its kind built by Wolseley to date, was the water management section. With products displayed by Plumb Center and Drain Center, this area illustrated how schools can reduce annual water usage by more than a third. Solutions such as rainwater harvesting, by Kingspan Environmental, were of particular interest to programme stakeholders.
Matt Lightbody, Wolseley’s Building Schools for the Future Projects Manager, said: "Interest in this area was driven by schools’ commitment to minimise their environmental impact alongside opportunities to reduce annual water bills which can be up to £20 000 a year for a secondary school. The opportunity to incorporate such systems into the curriculum was also a perceived benefit.
"Overall, this was a good show that generated some excellent leads for us in potential projects right across the UK."
