Enviroblock concrete blocks from Aggregate Industries were carefully selected for a new police facility in Northamptonshire, helping to achieve the strict environmental and acoustics requirements of the project.

Weekley Wood Justice Centre in Kettering is a state-of-the art facility which serves as an operational base for Northamptonshire Police in the north of the county.

The £35million facility, located on North Kettering Business Park, includes custody suites to replace outdated facilities at nearby Corby Police Station and a new accommodation building on the same site which provides office space for the force.

With a brief to support the environmental requirements of the development, masonry contractors Phoenix Brickwork turned to Aggregate Industries’ Building Products division – who proposed Enviroblock Midi blocks from the Masterblock range.

A total of 5,452m2 of blocks was supplied in standard and paint grade finishes for internal and external walls, delivering an environmentally responsible solution. A minimum 73% of the aggregate used to produce Enviroblock is recycled or secondary content, while the range also offers impressive sound insulation of up to 45 RwdB, vital in a busy custody suite.

Ian Knight, Regional Manager for Phoenix Brickwork (UK) Ltd, said: “Given the sustainable requirements of this project, from the outset it was clear that we needed to work with a specialist building materials supplier that could help us meet the brief. The Enviroblock concrete blocks supplied by Aggregate Industries didn’t disappoint, providing exceptional environmental and acoustic properties. I’d like to thank Aggregate Industries for the professional and seamless service they provided throughout.”

Jeremy Lee, Sales Director for Building Products at Aggregate Industries, said: “This was a unique development, creating a busy new police facility located on a business park, which will serve as both an operational base and a busy custody suite.

“With strict requirements of the build, it was vital to find a block that could not only minimise the impact of noise from within the building, but also help meet the environmental credentials required of a new local government buildings.

“Enviroblock offers the perfect solution, suitable for internal and external use, in stand and paintgrade finishes, whilst environmentally engineered to meet the demands of today’s society.”
