Groups of local litter-pickers have cleaned up Morpeth’s act by collecting bags of rubbish, with support from MKM Building Supplies.

Two ‘litter blitz’ teams covered Morpeth town centre and surrounding estates, successfully filling 87 bags collectively. MKM Morpeth donated gloves, hi-vis vests and litter pickers to help the groups of volunteers.

The blitzes are part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean. The campaign, running from 23 March until 23 April, encourages ‘clean-ups’ all around the country. So far, the national scheme has involved over 500,000 Litter Hero volunteers.

Morpeth Litter Group was formed by Dai Richards, a Keep Britain Tidy ambassador. The group came about after Dai co-ordinated the informal litter-picking events into a more organised force.

Alun James, Branch Director at MKM Morpeth, said: “Keep Britain Tidy’s scheme is a fantastic one that we were thrilled to get behind.

“We’re all so proud of our fantastic local areas - so we didn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand to the Litter Heroes.”
