People who work in construction are being called on to help promote a positive image of the industry.

A campaign was launched on earlier this week by The Considerate Constructors Scheme, which sets out to improve the construction industry’s image by recognising companies and suppliers that demonstrate best practice.

It is encouraging workers to post, like and share positive images and stories from the world of construction on social media, using the hashtag #loveconstruction.

Images could include extraordinary buildings, technology, craftsmanship and innovation, or represent a workforce that is diverse and cares about the environment.

The aim is to improve the public’s perceptions of construction, particularly among young people and potential recruits.

It comes at a crucial time for the future of the workforce as, according to construction consultancy Arcadis, more than 400,000 new recruits are needed each year to deliver projects in the UK and Ireland.

CCS Chief Executive Edward Hardy said: “Perceptions of the construction industry among the general public, particularly young people, are now more than ever before formed by what they see and read on social media.

“While a number of organisations and individuals working across the industry are embracing the power of social media, there is a need for the entire industry to speak in one voice to promote a positive image of construction.

“By uniting under #loveconstruction, we will all be promoting a truly inspiring industry to help entice the next generation to see what construction has to offer.”
