Young players at AFC Yorkshire will now be able to shower and keep warm when they come off the pitch, thanks to local tradespeople.

The junior football team had been complaining about a lack of heating and hot water following the club’s recent move to Wombwell Recreation Ground in Barnsley.

John Powney from Love Your Plumber read about their situation on an online forum, and decided to organise a “DIY SOS”-style makeover on the ground, with the help of local heating engineers, and received donations of products from local merchants.

Merchants have donated products including radiators and copper piping, and Ideal Boilers has donated two Ideal Logic+ boilers.

Luke King, Ideal Boilers' Area Sales Manager, said: "The work the club does with the young players, to not only develop their football skills but also build their life skills off the field, really makes a difference.

“At Ideal Boilers we are keen to support the community so when we heard about the club's need to upgrade the heating system to ensure the players could shower and keep warm when they came off the pitch we were delighted to help."
