An art event involving 12,000 giant dominoes weaving their way through Hull was “an unforgettable spectacle”.

Around 30,000 people turned up to watch the moving sculpture as it ran for more than two miles through the marina, shops, gardens and public squares.

The white breezeblocks were supplied free of charge by builders’ merchant MKM Building Supplies, and placed with the help of 450 volunteers. They are now being donated to local community initiatives and charities.

The first block was pushed at 4:30pm in Marina’s Boat Yard, and the last one fell in Queens Gardens more than one hour later.

The event was organised by Absolutely Cultured, the team whose campaign help Hull to win the City of Culture 2017 accolade.

David Kilburn, Executive Chairman of MKM Building Supplies, said: “This project gives those in the Hull area a special, shared experience - an unforgettable spectacle to marvel at and cherish.

“It also places Hull - the city where MKM was founded - on the map for mind-blowing ambition.”
