Dedication to reducing energy consumption and increasing efficiency has won Ibstock Brick an accolade at this year’s Business Green Leaders Awards.

The brick manufacturer was highly commended in the Manufacturer of the Year category.

Its new Eclipse factory at its headquarters in Leicestershire is clad in a breathable material to reduce the need for additional ventilation equipment, making it more energy efficient.

Another key initiative has been its Horizon Scanning strategy, which allows it to identify, prioritise and manage the risks involved in all its activities. This project has reduced the amount of carbon emissions and waste volume that it produces, and increased the levels of recycled water that is uses in its production process.

The BusinessGreen Leaders Awards showcase the UK’s leading green businesses and recognise the progress in reducing environmental impact the business community has made. Entrants are judged by panel of sustainability professionals and green economy leaders.

Michael McGowan, Quality, Environmental and Energy Manager at Ibstock Brick, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our approach to sustainability.

“Our strategy has allowed us to pilot key initiatives, set objectives and targets for the entire business leading to significant improvements in all areas with progress continually monitored through Key Performance Indicators. Our Sustainability Working Group will continue to develop initiatives that will drive progress in the manufacturing process and push forward future improvements.”
