A Sussex-based builders’ merchant has launched a novel region-wide charitable initiative.

Chandlers Building Supplies has launched its #BuildItPurple initiative for its adopted charity in the South East, Chailey Heritage Foundation. The charity, synonymous with the colour purple, will receive 25p for every specially commissioned Build-It-Purple bag of aggregate purchased over the next three months.

An extra £1 will donated for every photo of a Build-It-Purple bag shared by anyone on social media using the hashtag #BuildItPurple.

Sue McKinney of Chandlers Building Supplies said: “We estimate raising about £3,000 for Chailey from this initiative and perhaps even double that if the public also gets involved.

“We are asking everyone to help us with this fundraising effort. If you spot one of Chandler’s Build-It-Purple bags anywhere, just share the photo on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook – using #BuildItPurple. Every photo shared will result in an extra £1 going to the Chailey’s DREAM Centre project.”

The £2.6 million D.R.E.A.M Centre Appeal aims to build a modern, accessible indoor activity space where children and young people with complex disabilities and health needs can participate in a mixture of arts and physical activities.

With 10 merchant stores throughout the South East, Chandlers Building Supplies is confident that there will be hundreds of purple bags around the region.

Jennifer Hanraads of The Chailey Heritage Foundation added: “It’s great to have Chandlers Building Supplies involved with this project, and we are extremely grateful for their continued support over the years. Let’s get #BuildItPurple up and running!”
