The Weybridge branch of Champion Timber is supporting its local college with a special project. Brooklands College, which is minutes away from the branch, is currently in the process of creating a sensory garden for the supported learning department.

Students from the bricklaying and carpentry courses are creating the garden with the support of their tutors Christian Hatherall-Good (brickwork), Jonathan Cooper (carpentry) and Andrew Barrett (department technician) as well as from local suppliers including Champion Timber. Champion has supplied the college with decking, landscaping timber, screen fencing and fixtures.

The sensory garden gives the students a solid opportunity to develop and enhance their skills by working on something that will in turn benefit the young people in the supported learning department.

Kevin Simper, branch manager of Champion Timber Weybridge, said: “As a new business in Weybridge, we are really keen to support the local community and young people. The college approached us asking for discounted timber for the new garden and we were, of course, more than happy to oblige. We also gave the students some freebies such as tape measures, t-shirts and mugs.”
