Selco Builders Warehouse is revving up to move through the gears in 2016 by backing a championship designed to unearth the motorsport stars of the future.

The builders’ merchant will be the title sponsor of the 600 Freshman Championship, part of the Thundersport GB series.

The 600 Freshman Championship is being held for the first time in 2016 and will see youngsters aged from 17 upwards enjoying their first real taste of competitive motorsport on nine of the most established motorsport venues in the UK, including Donington Park and Brands Hatch.

Helen Gemmell, marketing director of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “We know a large proportion of our staff and customers are huge motorsport fans and enjoy watching and participating in events such as Thundersport GB.

“The Freshman Championship is particularly appealing for us because it is a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of motorsport stars to take their first steps on the track.”

The deal further strengthens Selco’s sport sponsorship portfolio, which includes Manchester’s Adam Gittings, who races in the Pre-National 600 Championship within the Thundersport series, and Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

Ms Gemmell added: “Sport is a fantastic way to reach existing and new customers and we always aim to combine our sponsorship activity with charity and community events.

“Supporting Thundersport GB through a championship sponsorship was a natural next step for us after backing Adam in 2015 and carrying that on through this year.”

The first Selco 600 Freshman Championship races will be held at Brands Hatch on 5-6 March, and will be run alongside the Pre-National 600 Championship races.
