Selco Builders Warehouse will open three more new branches before the end of the year, taking the total number of outlets opened in 2015 to five, the company has revealed.

The new branches are due to be created in Southampton, New Southgate and Weybridge before the end of the year, and are part of wider expansion plans, the company says.

While Southampton will represent a new geographic location for Selco, the branches in New Southgate and Weybridge will aim to further strengthen the company’s presence in and around London.

The new openings will take the number of Selco branches in the UK to 40, with 24 of those in London and the South East.

Chris Cunliffe, chief executive for Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “We set ourselves a target at the start in 2015 of trying to double the size of the business within five years and these new openings are further steps towards achieving that.

“We have already opened two new branches this year, in Redhill in January, and Coventry in July, so it’s been a very busy 2015.

“The branches at New Southgate and Weybridge will provide yet more opportunities for us to service our customers in and around the M25.

“The Southampton branch is a little different because it’s a new area for us, but it’s another small step towards us trying to get a branch in every major UK town and city.”

Selco says it is delighted to be making a major impact to the economy and on local communities around the UK.

Mr Cunliffe added: “For each branch we open we create at least 50 new jobs and we always look to fill those with people from the local area, where possible.

“As we continue to grow and develop and work towards our target of doubling the size of the business, the good news for the economy is that it will see our current workforce double in size over this period to 4,000 employees.

“That is a significant number and, as well as providing the best possible service to our customers, is the major driving factor behind us keeping the Selco impetus going.”

Selco branches in England and Wales supply building materials including doors, windows, insulation, roofing, heating, plumbing supplies, lighting, electrical products, kitchens, bathrooms and timber.

Branches also offer an in-branch café, trade services, direct-to-site delivery options and van-size parking spaces.

Tool and plant hire is also available across 24 branches in London, Nottingham and Coventry, and will be available in the three new branches, as well as being extended to the rest of the company in 2016.
