Charities and community groups in New Southgate have been given the chance to build a brighter future – by winning £2,000 worth of building materials.

The opportunity has been provided by Selco Builders Warehouse to mark the opening of its new branch in New Southgate.

Charities and community groups are invited to submit an application of no more than 100 words explaining why they would be deserving of the prize and how they would use the large quantity of building materials. A panel of judges will then select the winner.

Sean Madden, branch manager of Selco’s New Southgate store, which will be based on Brunswick Park Industrial Estate, said: “We are delighted to be offering this prize to mark the opening of our New Southgate branch.

“It is going to make a huge difference to the successful charity or community group and will transform the facility in which they can work.

“It is fantastic to be able to immediately give something straight back to the new community we are moving in to.”

Entries must be submitted by noon on October 7 and can be made by filling in the application form at www.selcobw.com/newsouthgatecharity.

The opening of the New Southgate branch, the 38th Selco in the UK and 23rd in and around London, has created more than 50 jobs for the local economy.

Mr Madden added: “We have a talented team in place and we can’t wait to get started and serving the local community.

“The branch will provide a boost to tradesmen in and around New Southgate area, as they will be able to enjoy the benefits Selco provides – unrivalled availability, with the widest range of products in stock, as well as excellent customer service and straight trade pricing.”

The New Southgate branch will supply a range of building materials, including doors, windows, insulation, roofing, heating, plumbing supplies, lighting, electrical products, kitchens, bathrooms and timber.

It will have an in-branch café, trade counter services, direct-to-site delivery options and van size parking spaces, all designed to make it easier for tradespeople to get back onto the job as soon as possible. Tool and plant hire will also be available.
