Staff from Robert Price Builders’ Merchants have been busy completing the company’s 2015 Charity Challenge.

This year, staff from the builders’ merchant took on the South Wales Three Peaks Trial to raise money for charity. The Trial involves scaling in one day the three prominent peaks in Monmouthshire, at the eastern end of the Brecon Beacons: the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and Skirrid.

For the intrepid team from Robert Price, the aim of the challenge was to raise £2,000, to be split between four nominated charities - Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent Mind, the National Children’s Deafness Society, the Motor Neuron Disease Association and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

With the generous help of suppliers, customers, and colleagues, fundraising exceeded all expectations. Including a fund match from Robert Price, more than £4,000 was raised and will be split between the four charities, with an additional donation made to Longtown Mountain Rescue, the rescue service associated with marshalling and organising the event.

Of the 14 team members who took part, 12 completed the trial, while the remaining two completed two mountains. With difficult weather conditions on the day, completion was even more impressive.

Molly Pike, marketing manager at Robert Price Builders’ Merchants, and one of the walkers who took part in the trial, said: “I’m so pleased for everyone in the team who took part in this year’s Charity Challenge. Despite difficult conditions and extremely weary legs it was a great day, building bonds between colleagues and testing our mental and physical stamina. More importantly we have managed to raise a fantastic amount for our chosen charities which makes all the hard work worth it.

“We have certainly enjoyed supporting a local event this year. Next year’s Charity Challenge is already shaping up to be an even bigger test, where we can aspire to raise even more money for such worthy causes.”
