Figures published recently by the Construction Products Association show a forecasted growth in the industry of 23% by the end of 2018, with private housing starts expected to grow by 10% in 2015. This is great news according to Rudridge, the independent supplier of groundwork, drainage and civil engineering materials.

The Chancellor George Osborne’s announcement earlier this year that a new garden city development of 15,000 homes is to be built at Ebbsfleet, Kent puts the new development very close to home for the south-east based merchant. The government ultimately plans to build three garden cities, each with more than 15,000 homes.

All four Rudridge branches have seen substantial expansion in its trading as a result of greater certainty in the construction sector. In addition, this week’s news regarding the coalition’s second garden city in Bicester, Oxfordshire, confirms such stability.

Robert Rudd, managing director of Rudridge, said: “These figures are excellent news for the whole construction industry. The private housing sector in particular has seen rapid growth fuelled by demand, the improved health of the economy and government initiatives such as the Help to Buy scheme. The commercial sector is also benefitting from increased economic confidence. As a specialist independent merchant, our branches continue to offer unrivalled customer service; we look forward to the New Year and new growth.”
