MKM Building Supplies has been listed in the Sunday Times’ Grant Thornton Fast Track 250 for the first time, after delivering a first-class financial performance last year.

The company placed 201st in this year’s listings as a result of a 14% growth in sales. The news follows a £25m refinancing deal MKM agreed with Lloyds Bank last month, which will see the company expand its branch network across the UK.

MKM Building Supplies currently has 42 branches stretching from Perth down to Deal in Kent and employs around 840 people across the group, and a string of new branches due to open planned for the coming years will see significant growth in the figures.

Founder and chief executive David Kilburn said: “It is a real achievement to see MKM Building Supplies listed among the top private companies in the UK, particularly before we reach our 20th birthday. The fact that we feature is testament to the hard work of a great many people who help push this company forward on a day-to-day basis.

“With our expansion plans now well and truly in place, we expect further growth over the coming years and with that, an accompanying climb up the ranks. Hopefully next year we will break into the top 200.”
