Operation Tornado whips up membership
Published:  28 September, 2012

THE MIDLANDS: Since September, 400 new members have enrolled in the West Midlands Police anti-metal theft campaign Operation Tornado.

Metal recycling firm Mason Metals has been running its membership scheme on a voluntary basis since January this year and has received positive feedback from MPs and the local press for its proactive stance.

"With the arrival of Tornado, and the cash ban commencing in December this year, the industry is concerned about customer and business levels," said Masons' owner Andrew Jones.

BACS bank transfer, cheque and cash apply until December, but only if the conditions of Operation Tornado are met. That means having to produce either a photo driving licence or a passport or similar with a recent utility bill.
