EH Smith gets 'outstanding results' with soft landscaping range

WEST MIDLANDS: New focus on a 'neglected' category has brought "outstanding results" for EH Smith.

Following the successful re-launch of its soft landscaping products, the independent merchant, best known for its heavyside building materials, decided to explore more diverse markets and expanded its paving and landscaping product ranges. This includeed a new focus on topsoil, bark mulch and play chip in big bags.

EH Smith operates from eight sites, but also has a "national reputation, so it was crucial to get the offering right if the category was to be successfully developed," said depot sales director Darren Moles.

"The first step was to take the category seriously and regard the project as a business development opportunity.

"I am delighted with sales since we re-launched these products with our new supplier, Hallstone, in March."

Hallstone is a sister company to Rolawn, Europe's largest producer of cultivated turf.
