Construction boosts economy

LONDON: The UK economy grew by 0.8% in the last three months, calming fears that Britain's economic recovery is faltering.

Much of the growth was due to the construction industry, which grew by 4% during the quarter. The services and industrial sectors both expanded by 0.6%, the Office for National Statistics said.

Data released today by the ONS showed that economic growth slowed between July and September, following the surprisingly robust growth of 1.2% recorded in the previous quarter. But it was twice as strong as the City had expected, with most analysts expecting growth of just 0.4%.
