Aggregate Industries has opened a new high-capacity ready-mix concrete plant on the outskirts of Sheffield.

The new site – located just off the Europa Link, Tinsley – sits right beside the established Aggregate Industries asphalt plant and is accessible via Junction 33 of the M1. It is able to produce 130m3 of concrete per hour from its 3.3m twin-shaft mixer; nearly ten times the rate of the previous Aggregate Industries Sheffield site on Warren Street. It comes as the company responds to growing demand in the South Yorkshire area.

The site also offers the added flexibility of 24/7 operating hours when required, meaning urgent jobs need not wait, while its larger, improved fleet of trucks means improved reliability and surety of supply.

The new location lends itself perfectly to both the delivery and collect markets, as it provides easy access to sites across South Yorkshire: from Barnsley, to Markham Vale, to Doncaster. The move out of town will also reduce emissions around Sheffield city centre – a significant step with the city’s ‘clean air zone’ consultations being held this year.

Gavin Adkins, General Manager at Aggregate Industries, said: “This new plant is testament to the fact that we are always adapting to demand in the market. By moving to this larger site, we are able to provide a better service to our customers in Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

“In addition, being next door to our asphalt plant means we are able to share expertise and resources, resulting in an efficient, collaborative setup that offers the utmost in convenience and flexibility for our customers.”
